Softball teams eliminated at district
Highline Times - Three fastpitch softball teams from the Highline Times/Des Moines News area journeyed to Sprinker Recreation Center in Spanaway for West Central District/Southwest Washington tournament action in three different classifications, and all three were quickly eliminated. Of the three, Mount Rainier came the closest to winning. SLIDESHOW: Tyee advances into soccer quarterfinals
Highline Times - It's been a season of firsts for the Tyee High School boys soccer team. The Totems made their first state playoff appearance since 1982 when they hosted Capital this past Tuesday, and they posted their first state victory ever when they won that game by a 4-1 score. Now Tyee goes on to the state quarterfinals Saturday, May 18 for the first time when the Totems pay a 7 p.m. visit to Franklin Pierce High School of Tacoma. Highline Times - At 6:15 a.m., May 17, a Boeing 737-400 Alaska Cargo Combi arrived at Sea-Tac Airport with much fanfare to unload 24,000 pounds of recently-caught Copper River king and sockeye salmon via processors, Ocean Beauty, Trident, and Copper River seafoods. After their three-hour flight, pilots Jeff Meyer, captain, and Peter Michels, first officer, appeared holding a "lucky" 42-pound salmon over their heads, then escorted the fish down the outside ladder to the tarmac, and across a red carpet for media and other onlookers. Highline Schools Foundation raises over $13,000 during May 15 GiveBIG effort; Over $11 M raised countywide
Highline Times - Highline Schools Foundation raised over $13,000 during the Wednesday, May 15, GiveBIG annual fundraiser. All money raised will support Highline Public School students in academic achievement, classroom enrichment, the arts in schools, athletics, college & career readiness, and more, according to their website. The Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable event benefitting nonprofit organizations. In 2011, $4.1 million was raised through the first GiveBIG to support over 900 nonprofits.
