Election update: Voters choose extra North Bend officer, reject Carnation police measure by 30 voes
PNW Local News - Results from the Tuesday, Nov. 4, general election showed North Bend residents in favor of extra police and local parks, while in Carnation, a package for more police protection was failing by a narrow margin. A sales tax increase in North Bend was voted in, by an overwhelming majority of 1,188 yes votes, 64 percent, to 670 no votes, 36 percent. Read more...

Seattle Post-Intelligencer - The Washington Supreme Court has denied a request to pick a new trial judge in the death-penalty cases against two people charged with killing a family of six in Carnation in 2007. In a unanimous decision announced late Thursday afternoon, the court also reversed a trial court's order that would have compelled the prosecutor to amend charging information concerning the case against Michele Anderson and Joseph McEnroe . Carnation deaths: No closed courtroom when psychologists testify
Seattle Times - A two-day hearing began Wednesday in King County Superior Court to determine if Michele Anderson is mentally competent to stand trial, and potentially face the death penalty, for allegedly killing six members of her family on Christmas Eve 2007 in Carnation. Juror summonses have already been mailed out for the upcoming trial of Anderson's co-defendant and former boyfriend Joseph McEnroe, who is also charged with six counts of aggravated first-degree murder.
