Sound Transit seeking public comment on extension of Link light rail
The SeaTac Blog - Sound Transit is asking for public comments on the extension of Link light rail south from SeaTac's Angle Lake Station at S. 200th Street, and will be holding meetings on May 6 and May 7. On April 10, Sound Transit and the Federal Transit Administration published the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for extending Link light rail to Kent/Des Moines-also known as the Federal Way Link Extension. The DEIS answers questions such as: Service on the new extension to Kent/Des Moines will begin in 2023 and extend to Federal Way when funding becomes available. Read more...

Former Mayor Bob Sheckler says he violated no rules in taking Miami Beach trip
The Waterland Blog - A union that represents hotel workers claims Des Moines Councilmember - and former Mayor - Bob Sheckler failed to properly report that he and his wife took a trip paid for by a Chinese company then seeking to build the Artemis Hotel and wants the commission to take "take appropriate action" against Sheckler. Sheckler strongly rejects the charges and told the commission that the trip was paid for by Yareton Investments, "in exchange for tour guide services that my wife and I provided." Read more...

Jeanette Burrage resigns from Des Moines City Council
The Waterland Blog - Des Moines City Councilmember Jeanette Burrage - who has been charged with assaulting a special needs student riding on a Highline School District bus she was driving - submitted her resignation from the council on Wednesday, April 22. "I appreciate Councilmember Burrage's consideration of the Council's important work, and recognizing the distraction her situation would have caused if she remained on the Council," Mayor Dave Kaplan told The Waterland Blog.
