Man in hospital after suffering critical burns from house fire
Bellevue Reporter - A man was taken to Harborview Medical Center after suffering "critical" burns in a Newcastle house fire. The blaze in the three-story home on the 6400 block of Lake Washington Boulevard Southeast began at approximately 1:30 p.m., Bellevue Fire Department spokesman Lt. Troy Donlin said. The owner of a Shell station nearby noticed smoke, and heard a detector go off. The owner saw people fleeing the home. Read more...

Neighbors worried about plan for at-risk teen homes
Bellevue Reporter - For the last few months a standoff has been brewing between First Presbyterian Church's Eastside Academy and nearby neighbors over a proposal to provide two homes for at-risk teens. The academy has educated high school students considered "at-risk" because of poor family conditions, substance abuse, or criminal history for the last 11 years. Called Re:New Homes for Youth, the new plan would house six boys and six girls in two homes on 100th and 101st Avenue Northeast. The program is expected to begin in February. Read more...
