Two very different events Saturday celebrate salmon on our Peninsula
Peninsula Daily News - Events on opposite sides of the North Olympic Peninsula will celebrate wild salmon Saturday. Scientists and Olympic National Park rangers will be on hand to provide information at the Ozette Ranger Station near Sekiu from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In Chimacum, food, music, poetry and a parade will mark the North Olympic Salmon Coalition's annual Salmon Festival at Chimacum High School from noon to 6 p.m. Both are free. Cowboys top Wolves this time | Volleyball
Whidbey News-Times - The Coupeville High School volleyball team knocked off Chimacum last week, but the Cowboys evened the score with a 3-1 win over the visiting Wolves Thursday, Oct. 23. Coupeville appeared to be on the way to a series sweep when it won the first game 25-16; however, Chimacum rallied to take the next three and the match. Israeli, Palestinian to speak on peace at Port Hadlock Library tonight
Peninsula Daily News - Yaara Tal, an Israeli army veteran, and Deema Yusuf, a daughter of Ramallah, Palestine, will speak about their common hopes this evening in a free program at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave. In their 6:30 p.m. talk, the two young women will be joined by Dottie Indyke, executive director of Creativity for Peace, the nonprofit group that brought Yusuf and Tal together. Yusuf, 19, is a Palestinian who came from her childhood home in Ramallah on the West Bank to attend Creativity for Peace's summer camp in Santa Fe, N.M., in 2012. Read more...

Pedestrian struck by two vehicles on Highway 19 south of Port Hadlock
Peninsula Daily News - A 21-year-old Port Townsend man was listed in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center on Saturday after he was struck by two vehicles on state Highway 19 south of Port Hadlock on Friday night. Steven A. Springgate was airlifted to the Seattle hospital after being struck by a 1987 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Natalia M. Collier, 29, of Chimacum and a 1995 Ford Contour driven by Jason L.
