jul 6Goatalympics 2013Evergreen State FairgroundsA festive, free, family-friendly event, the Goatalympics is ridiculously fun! Come watch goats and their people compete in foot races, obstacle courses and more. Take your guess as to who will win Best Trick, Most Spots, Longest Beard and other exciting contests. Vote in the People's Choice Awards for Adult and Youth costume contests. Last year we saw attendance double with approximately 200 spectators and 64 participants who showed 71 goats. Ages of contestants ranged from 4 to 64. "We've been training for the Goatalympics for months bring on the competition!" Shelly, adult competitor
The 2013 Goatalympics is not your typical livestock event. Rather than focus on conformation and production, as seen at a typical County Fair, the Goatalympics is all about having fun with pet goats. It's a chance for people to show off their ruminants' skills, with events ranging from obstacle courses and races to costume and stall decorating contests. Last year's "Best Costume" "Beach Bums" was a sight to see! In addition to goat contests, there will be a mega-raffle and silent auction. Of course, there will be adorable, adoptable goats for people to meet. Several photographers will be on site as well, covering the fun from every angle and photos will be available for purchase online after the event.
A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, New Moon Farm is excited about the success of the Goatalympics, their largest fundraiser of the year. Since 1999, New Moon Farm has taken in, rehabilitated and found loving homes for over 1,200 goats. As the only goat rescue in Snohomish County, NMF takes in animals from private individuals, as well as working regularly with Animal Control agencies from across the state. Animals have come to NMF from as far as California and Idaho. All animals are seen by a veterinarian, and receive all necessary medical care before being made available for adoption. In addition to caring for these animals, New Moon Farm strives to promote compassion and respect for all living creatures through a presence in the community and by offering educational opportunities. With an operating budget of approximately $70,000 per year, New Moon Farm is funded completely by public donations. There is no county, state, or federal funding for large animal rescue. In addition to being a fun celebration of goats, the Goatalympics helps to raise money for the goat rescue and raise awareness of the New Moon Farm organization. The event is open to anyone who loves animals! Please visit www.newmoonfarm.org for more details.
