City Council introduces developer fees to support affordable housing
Capitol Hill Times - With the cost of renting an apartment in Seattle at an all-time high, City Councilmembers Mike O'Brien and Sally Clark with Affordable Housing Linkage Fees, which the councilmembers hope will increase the supply of low-cost rental units across the city. Currently, the Incentive Zoning Program requires developers in the downtown and South Lake Union areas to either make approximately five percent of their units affordable for renters making 80 percent of the area median income, or pay a fee that would contribute to the city's affordable housing trust.
