New director hired for Joint Animal Services
The Olympian - Ricord Torgerson will begin Wednesday as executive director of Joint Animal Services, which provides animal care, welfare, licensing, adoptions and enforcement in South Sound. He will replace Susanne Beauregard who retired in June after 25 years with the intergovernmental agency that's funded and supported by Thurston County and the cities of Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater. Tumwater-based Mud Bay, a store for dogs and cats, offers employees stake in company
The Olympian - Mud Bay, an Olympia-grown retailer of healthful food, treats and supplies for dogs and cats, has come a long way since a single general store/farm store on Mud Bay Road in 1988. The company today is based in Tumwater, has 33 locations - including in west Olympia, Lacey and University Place - and more than 300 employees, sometimes referred to as "muddies." Read more...

The Olympian - A photo taken during an August 14th tour of a barn used by the City of Tumwater unearthed what is left of the large Olympia Brewery horseshoe logo sign that was week visible from Interstate 5 in the 1960's. Old Olympia Beer sign could see light of day
The Olympian - On Aug. 20, stopping by a barn used by the City of Tumwater, longtime Tumwater resident Gabe Harrison finds that remnants of the large Olympia Brewery horseshoe logo sign visible from Interstate 5 in the 1960s had been quietly removed since his last visit. Suspect in Tumwater hostage situation in critical-but-stable condition at Harborview
The Olympian - A multi-agency, law enforcement response team investigates the officer-involved shooting at the Trosper Road Jack in the Box restaurant Aug. 18th after Tumwater police responding to a reported 4:30pm hostage incident shot one suspect ,who was then transported to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. I-5 lane, ramp closures scheduled in Olympia, Tumwater
The Olympian - On Aug. 21, one lane on the ramp from southbound US 101 to northbound Interstate 5 will close at 8 p.m. and one lane will remain open until 9 p.m., when crews will close the entire ramp. The Deschutes Way SW on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5 will close at 8 p.m. Crews will also close two right lanes of northbound I-5 between Trosper Road SW and Capitol Lake beginning at 9:30 p.m. At 9 p.m. Aug. 22 the southbound I-5 exit to northbound US 101 will close. WA: IT Expands Service to Northwest Tumwater
Mass Transit - Aug. 13--Intercity Transit's Route 42 service is expanding Monday to include service to and from northwest Tumwater and a portion of Mottman Industrial Park.
