No Place Like Home; Our Community\'s Queer Youth Homelessness Crisis
First Christian Church
This eye-opening event will examine the enormous impact of homelessness on queer youth, who comprise up to 40% of unhoused young people. It will include a panel featuring youth who face homelessness and those who provide them with assistance, as well as presentations from the local groups that assist unhoused youth and information on how concerned individuals can make a difference. Admission is free, but donations to Stonewall Youth are urgently needed and will be gratefully accepted. If possible, we also ask those attending to bring nonperishable food, hygiene supplies, tents, sleeping bags and clean clothing for local groups to distribute to unhoused youth. World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales to Appear at the Olympic Air Show
Olympic Flight Museum
The world famous Budweiser Clydesdales, the symbol of quality and tradition for Anheuser-Busch since 1933, are scheduled to make several appearances in the area on August 10, 2013, including one at the Olympic Flight Museum in conjunction with the Olympic Air Show.

The eight-horse hitch will be harnessed and hitched to the famous red beer wagon at the Olympic Flight Museum on August 10 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. On August 10, the "Gentle Giants," as they are often referred to, will participate in the Olympic Air Show. The air show gates open at 9:00 am.

The Clydesdales' appearance in Olympia is one of hundreds made annually by the traveling hitches. Canadians of Scottish descent brought the first Clydesdales to America in the mid-1800’s. Today, the giant draft horses are used primarily for breeding and show.

Horses chosen for the Budweiser Clydesdale hitch must be at least three years of age, stand approximately 18 hands - or six feet - at the shoulder, weigh an average of 2000 pounds, must be bay in color, have four white stockings, and a blaze of white on the face and black mane and tail. A gentle temperament is very important as hitch horses meet millions of people each year.

A single Clydesdale hitch horse will consume as much as 20-25 quarts of feed, 40-50 pounds of hay and 30 gallons of water per day.

Each hitch travels with a Dalmatian. In the early days of brewing, Dalmatians were bred and trained to protect the horses and guard the wagon when the driver went inside to make deliveries.

The Budweiser Clydesdales can be viewed at the Anheuser Busch breweries in St. Louis, Mo.; Merrimack, N.H.; and Ft. Collins, Colo. They also may be viewed at Grant’s Farm in St. Louis and at Warm Springs Ranch, the 300-plus acre Clydesdale breeding farm located near Boonville, Mo.

Olympic Air Show
Olympic Flight Museum
Due to sequestration, all participation of military aircraft at air shows around the nation has been canceled this year. The Olympic Air Show has been rescheduled for August 10-11, 2013 in order to accommodate the many civilian performers featured in the show which will also include increased performances by Olympic Flight Museum aircraft. There will be many recognized aerobatic performers and aircraft. Military aircraft and displays are represented from most military branches and eras from WWII, Korea to Vietnam. In addition, other attractions will include Budweiser Beer Garden, food and merchandise vendors, and a variety of youth activities will be onsite. This weekend event promises to deliver the excitement of heritage aviation that visitors anticipate.
