USGA Announces 2015 U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Sites
Digital Game Developer - The United States Golf Association today announced sectional qualifying sites for the 2015 U.S. Open Championship, which will be held at Chambers Bay, in University Place, Wash., on June 18-21. Sectional qualifying, conducted over 36 holes, will be held on June 8 at 10 sites in the U.S. For the 11th consecutive year, Japan and England will host international sectional qualifying, which is scheduled for May 25. The U.S. Open has worldwide appeal, so it is fitting that sectional qualifying will be conducted once again at international sites and in many regions of the United States, said Diana Murphy, USGA vice president and Championship Committee chairman. Chambers Bay open for anything — except lightning
Seattle Times - The University Place course, the site of this year's U.S. Open, didn't close last week despite taking on 5 inches of rain in four days. Family settles in death of mentally ill man beaten by Pierce County deputies
Seattle Times - Pierce County will pay the family of a mentally ill man who died after being beaten by sheriff's deputies $750,000 in a settlement that also assures deputies will receive additional training in dealing with the mentally disturbed. Ronald Hillstrom, a 44-year-old University Place man with a history of severe mental illness, including psychosis, died on May 11, 2014, after four sheriff's deputies - assigned as University Place police officers - used a Taser, their fists and flashlights to subdue him after receiving a call of a "disturbed person."
