Tacoma-area lender gets 5 years in jail for mortgage fraud
Business Journal - A University Place hard-money lender was sentenced to five years in jail for bilking the government out of more than $800,000 in a home-mortgage loan scheme. Hard-money lender Emiel A. Kandi , 37, of University Place was sentenced to five years in jail and ordered to pay more than $831,000 in restitution for his role in a mortgage fraud scheme that bilked the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development out of more than $800,000. Chambers Bay prepares to host U.S. Open golf tournament

Charges: Drunk driver crashes truck with young children inside
KOMO News - A 31-year-old man with a history of drunk driving was arrested Saturday after crashing his pickup truck with his two young children inside then threatening to kill a responding deputy, according to charges filed in Pierce County Superior Court. According to the charging documents, a tow-truck driver was at a University Place 7-Eleven around 10:30 p.m. when someone told him there was a white pickup truck stuck on the landscaping outside an attorney's office in the 5300 block of South Orchard Street. Charges: Robber finds victim using Facebook, really helps police out
KOMO News - For anyone who thinks it's just old people who don't understand the Internet and social media, a young robber reportedly used his personal Facebook account to target a victim, which really made things easy for the University Place Police Department. According to charges filed Friday in Pierce County Superior Court, the victim listed his phone for sale on a Facebook-related site and exchanged messages with 18-year-old Paul Kirkwood agreeing on a price and setting up a meeting place. Washington Times - A Los Angeles developer unveiled drawings Tuesday for a resort at Chambers Bay in University Place that would be big and dramatic with a five-story hotel and sweeping views of Chambers Bay Golf Course and a proposed second course.
